Who I Work With
My clients are women who are looking for something fulfilling just for themselves. They typically have worked before having children, and may be working full-time or part-time now as they continue to balance the demands of motherhood. They are women for whom taking care of the family will always remain a top priority, yet as the demands of children start to ease up, they begin to wonder “what’s next for me?” For some of my clients, this moment comes when weaning their youngest child (as it did for me), for others it comes as their children leave for college. But at some point, they begin to look around and realize that they want something more for themselves - in addition to motherhood.
Does Any of This Sound Like You?
You’ve spent a number of years intensely focused on meeting the needs of your children and family. Taking care of children full time is all-consuming. It’s easy to lose track of your own goals, desires, and needs. As the children get older, you find yourself with more time and capacity to do something for yourself, but you’re not sure what it is that you would find fulfilling.
You are not the same person you were before you had children, but you’re not sure what your identity is anymore beyond “Mom.” Having a family has changed your perspectives and priorities in many ways. As the demands of childrearing start to let up, you find yourself wondering who you are in addition to “Mom.”
You are committed to your family and taking care of them, yet you’re feeling bored and restless with the day-to-day activities. Taking care of your family will always remain a top priority for you, yet you need something more than laundry, carpooling and school fund raising events to feel fulfilled in your life. You would like to find a way to do something for yourself that still allows you to take care of your family – perhaps something that would even give you the energy you need to do it well.
You always thought you would go back to work after your children were older, but your previous career is not interesting to you anymore, and you’re not sure what is. Even though you may have enjoyed what you did before you had children, it just doesn’t hold that same attraction for you now. You have grown and changed in the intervening years, and you want to investigate something else, something that is a better fit for the person you are now, and for your current lifestyle. Perhaps you have thoughts of returning to a passion from your school days, or of getting more involved in something you have recently discovered.
You want something more for yourself now, but you’re not sure what it is. You can feel that you want something more for yourself, but you’re not sure how to begin to figure out what that might be. Could be a job, could be a hobby, could be a community of friends. Even though you aren’t sure where it will lead, you are ready to begin the exploration.
What Kinds of Women Like to Work With Me?
Women who are committed to learning and growth and living a life of intention. Looking at these kinds of issues takes time and commitment. Women who get the most benefit out of my coaching are not looking for a "quick fix" and understand it takes focus and effort to make real change. My clients usually spend at least three to six months in coaching, and are committed to trying new things in between the sessions in order to create the kind of life they want to have.
Women who are interesting in looking at how they are BEING in their lives as well as what they are DOING. It is easy to get caught up in all the tasks we have to do in our busy lives. Women who like to work with me are interested in looking at how they are living their lives – how they show up in relationships, how their thoughts and feelings influence their behavior towards themselves and others, how they take care of themselves and their bodies, and how the people and things they surround themselves with influence the way they live their lives.
